Living In Nz

Just want to share my observations that many Russian immigrants now living in NZ are rather critical of their newly-acquired homeland. I can hear the words "boring", "quite", many complains about the lousy health care system, bad education, low salaries, etc. And yet these people are still living in NZ (despite all the bad stuff and hard sacrifices!!!) Two questions: why are you living here if you don't like it? And don't you feel at least a little bit grateful to the country that has welcomed you and given you a new life (no doubt, better than what you had in the USSR, Russia, Ukraine, etc.) ?

I am not sure why your question was in English - it it highly likely that it will be delelted as contradicting the Terms of this Forum.

Nevertheless - my answer is as following:

You are generalising. The same as if you were saying that all Kiwis are getting smashed un pubs on a Friday night, that all NZ-ers like rugby, that all Kiwis are lay-back-natured. Sounds funny, yeah? The same applies to us - we are different, and a lot of us love our newly (or not-so-newly) acquired homeland. We work hard, earn good money and pay out taxes. Oh, and we teach our children to be good and decent citizens of their country.

However, there are people who, in my view, are destined to be unhappy regardless of where they are and one can only pity them.

For those who ask questions, however, on how to get here – they must realise that New Zealand is not a paradise (although it comes as close as it gets) and that their life would be not only petals, but some thorns as well.
