Not all household batteries must be taken to the HazMobile for recycling. Non-rechargeable (single use) zinc carbon, zinc chloride and alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, and D sizes) are not classified as hazardous waste and can be disposed of in the normal household rubbish. Please check that these batteries do not contain mercury. All other batteries, especially rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium batteries can be recycled and should be taken to the HazMobile.
Fluorescent lights and Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (known as energy saving bulbs) are hazardous waste as they contain mercury and lead. They should not be disposed of in the landfill.
