AirportLink is a bus-and-train journey
AirportLink runs between the terminals, Puhinui Station and Manukau. For central Auckland, transfer at Puhinui to the appropriate train service; there is no train platform at the terminals. Use Auckland Transport’s journey planner for your date and hotel address. Rail works can replace the train with buses and add time. Contactless cards or AT HOP are accepted on the AT network; check the current fare rather than assuming an old airport fare still applies.
First day and rental pickup
Allow time for immigration, baggage and biosecurity before committing to any timed activity. For a late arrival, book accommodation that confirms late check-in. For two Auckland nights, collecting a car when leaving can avoid city parking costs, but compare offsite-depot opening hours, shuttle arrangements and one-way terms. Keep the first city day flexible: a waterfront walk and an early night are more realistic than Waitomo and Hobbiton after a long flight. For an early departure, confirm your terminal and the route from the hotel with baggage.
